1. For my poster, I switched constantly between using Photoshop and Illustrator, using one for color and the other for type etc. I used one of the photos that I based my poster off as a background layer, changing the opacity to 50% and proceeded to trace over the picture, on a separate layer, the picture frame and the hands holding it in place. I then made the color of where the picture would go a purple/blue radical gradient effect. That was the easier part. From there I couldn’t figure out how to change the color of the frame without changing the entire background to that color, so I switched over to Photoshop and used the paint bucket to give the frame an orangey yellow color. I also at this time changed the background to an inky brown that was so dark that it looked black, but wasn’t, and the hands and liner of the frame to white. Now it was on to the band’s name. I had originally taken a picture I had found online of the name in really cool, unique writing, and had planned to do what I had with the frame by tracing over it, but after working on that for a whole class, I realized that The background wasn’t disappearing and I had done all of that hard work for nothing. I then started over and used apple chancy along with a few other fonts, created outlines in Illustrator and changed the font to look how I wanted it, with a slight curve to the words to make it more 3D. I then resized it so that it took up two thirds of the frame and then added two filters, one to give it a grainy effect, and another to give it a cool texture.
2. The focal point of the poster is the band’s name Panic! At the Disco. I decided that this was the most important information because initially to catch some ones eye, you have to use something that they’re interested in. I made this the focal point by making the font different and bigger then everything else around it, and by placing it in the middle where the poster is lightest, getting darker towards the outer edges, it brings your attention there right away.
3. The typography of the bands name is warped and funky, letting you know that it probably wont be a classical band or a rapper, giving you an off balance feeling, just as the bands music actually is, very different from the norm.
4. Most of my poster is negative dark space, behind the frame a dark abyss with a light border framing another dark texturized section, making my white information stand out all the more.
5. I chose this type of design because while thinking of ideas for my poster, I came across a picture of the band holding the frame above around them with really funky clothing and top hates, and since I couldn't use the band members in my poster, I thought it would be kind of neat and freaky to still have the hands in the picture with the information in place of the people. This is a very unique band, with ever changing music styles, sometimes like the Beatles and other times with a pop twist, so I think that this poster resembles their indifference to society and following the crowd.
